The Ganya Shed Opening

On Saturday the 14th of June, it was a chilly morning. It felt like a true winter’s day when I arrived at the Ganya. I instantly felt the joy of the community coming together to celebrate a member of us who needed our support.

We started with Aunty Corina giving a beautiful Welcome to Country. Then there was a smoking ceremony. It took a while to get it going with the wind, but the smell of the smoke filled my lungs, and the sensation of the smoking ceremony pulled me into the moment. Uncle Lex’s clapping sticks filled the wind then the chatter of people filled the space.
