Class 6 On Country Camp

Greetings from our travels out west,

This update comes to you from Lightning Ridge! I can hear the chirping of birds, and the warm dry, dry, dry winds rustling the gum leaves in our campsite.

We left Uncle Ralph’s after hearing and seeing his story of living under extreme restrictions and a very segregated system. We traveled north and walked to the sandy caves. From there we drove to the Sculptures in the Scrub for a dream location and a gorgeous bushwalk in the morning along the creek and past some inspiring artworks.

We meandered towards Lightning Ridge through Narrabri, Wee Waa and Walgett. We arrived in this quirky place of opal which Uncle Wayne told us is the Rainbow Serpent’s shedded skin.

Last night under the stars and moonlight the children warmed their bodies in the Bore baths and slept soundly.

Everyone is well practiced at putting tents up and down pretty quickly and we are all looking forward to arriving at Gundabooka tonight and being able to slow things down a little.

Today we travel to the Brewarrina Fish Traps and Four mile. Lucky we are indeed.

See you soon,

Erica and Sarah
