{"id":14522,"date":"2026-02-11T11:25:57","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T00:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/khpost.test.pallasmarketing.com\/?p=14522"},"modified":"2026-02-11T11:25:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T00:25:57","slug":"literacy-support-program-how-we-help-when-reading-is-hard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/khpost.test.pallasmarketing.com\/?p=14522","title":{"rendered":"Literacy Support Program \u2013 How we Help When Reading is Hard"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Kindlehill Steiner School, we offer targeted support for students who may be experiencing challenges with reading through a small-group withdrawal program using the&nbsp;<strong>MULTILIT suite of programs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of&nbsp;<strong>Class 1<\/strong>, teachers use a combination of professional observation and a brief screening to check children\u2019s knowledge of letter names, the sounds they make, and their emerging ability to blend sounds together to read simple words. Where challenges are identified, families are offered the opportunity for their child to participate in the&nbsp;<strong>MiniLit <\/strong>program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MiniLit runs&nbsp;three to four times per week&nbsp;and is a structured phonics-based program. It focuses on developing a strong understanding of the sounds of the English language and the letters (graphemes) that represent those sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A further brief reading screen is completed with all students at the end of&nbsp;<strong>Class 3<\/strong>. This screen is benchmarked and helps identify students who may benefit from additional support. Where appropriate, students are offered&nbsp;<strong>MAQLIT<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Class 4<\/strong>. MAQLIT revisits key elements of MiniLit and extends learning into more complex sound patterns, including digraphs and diphthongs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These programs are delivered by\u00a0<strong>Collette, Sue, and Eliza<\/strong>, a highly dedicated team of educators who work thoughtfully and consistently to support students needing additional literacy assistance.
