{"id":12539,"date":"2023-07-31T14:32:53","date_gmt":"2023-07-31T03:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/khpost.test.pallasmarketing.com\/?p=12539"},"modified":"2023-07-31T14:32:53","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T03:32:53","slug":"students-find-audience-for-anti-plastic-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/khpost.test.pallasmarketing.com\/?p=12539","title":{"rendered":"Students Find Audience for Anti-plastic Message"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kindlehill High School\u2019s entry into ArtStreet, Winter Magic\u2019s exhibition which showcases local artforms in Katoomba\u2019s shopfronts, has been awarded Highly Commended, with students invited by local member Trish Doyle to take their message to the State Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Liar Bird, an assemblage sculpture created by Kindlehill\u2019s Year 10 Senior School Pilot Group, speaks to the mixed messages that consumers are so often told about <a><\/a>plastic packaging and waste. Each \u2018lie\u2019 surrounds the sculpture, not unlike the refuse that the native lyrebird collects to create their nests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Says teacher Georgia Adamson, \u201cThe Liar Bird raises awareness about the impact of plastic consumption. Our mannequin \u2013 dressed in a suit of recycled plastic and with tailfeathers made of repurposed plastic waste \u2013 represents the corporations and individuals who greenwash their products and packaging, cashing in on the public\u2019s good intentions without making any real changes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following on from their anti-plastic artwork, the students then turned their focus to Plastic Free July, creating twin banner messages that are currently on display over the Great Western Highway on Hazelbrook\u2019s footbridge. With a focus on \u2018single use plastics are forever\u2019, the students hope to reach commuters with their \u2018refuse\u2019 and \u2018reuse\u2019 messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEven the banners are recycled, so they\u2019re not single use, so we\u2019ll be able to use them for future projects, too\u201d, said Georgia. \u201cThe message we want to send is, \u2018When you see plastic, see fossil fuels, see climate change!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LIAR-BIRD.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12540\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kindlehill High School\u2019s entry into ArtStreet, Winter Magic\u2019s exhibition which showcases local artforms in Katoomba\u2019s shopfronts, has been awarded Highly Commended, with students invited by local member Trish Doyle to take their message to the State Parliament.
